Kurzes Rezept \u2013 Gimlet:<\/strong><\/p>\n

2 Teile Gin
\n1 Teil frischer Limettensaft (oder Rosen’s Lime Cordial, wenn du es klassisch willst)
\nOptional: Zuckersirup, falls du es s\u00fc\u00dfer magst.<\/p>\n

Alles mit Eis in einem Shaker kr\u00e4ftig sch\u00fctteln, durch einen Sieb in ein gek\u00fchltes Martini-Glas abseihen. Keine Deko n\u00f6tig, einfach pur und schlicht.<\/p>\n

Jetzt, wo du die Grundversion schon hast, lass uns ein paar Feinatome dieses Cocktails unter die Lupe nehmen. Der Gimlet sieht auf den ersten Blick vielleicht banal aus, aber wie so oft liegt der Teufel im Detail.<\/p>\n

1. Gin-Wahl:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Der Gimlet lebt vom Gin. Entweder verwendest du einen klassischen, wacholderlastigen London Dry Gin, wenn du\u2019s gerne traditionell magst. Empfehlenswert ist aber auch ein moderner, etwas floraler Gin, der dem Cocktail eine leichtere, frischere Note verleihen kann. Persiflage: Ein „multikomplexer“ Gin mit zig Botanicals k\u00f6nnte den Geschmack allerdings auch verw\u00e4ssern \u2013 manchmal ist weniger mehr.<\/p>\n

2. Limette:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Frischer Limettensaft bringt dir Klarheit ins Glas. Wenn du dich aber richtig an die Urspr\u00fcnge harkst, geh\u00f6rt eigentlich Rosen’s Lime Cordial rein, das ist ein s\u00fc\u00dfer Limettensirup. Das macht den Drink weniger s\u00e4uerlich, fast schon schmeichelnd am Gaumen. Aber dabei kann der Cocktail schnell zu s\u00fc\u00df werden. Balance ist hier alles. Wenn du den Cordial verwendest, kannst du komplett auf Zuckersirup verzichten.<\/p>\n

3. Das Mischverh\u00e4ltnis:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Traditionell hei\u00dft es, Du solltest 50:50 Gin und Lime Cordial nehmen. Na, guten Appetit. In so einer Mischung versenkt das s\u00fc\u00dfe Limettenkonzentrat jegliche Komplexit\u00e4t des Gins. Viele Bartender schlagen ein Verh\u00e4ltnis von 2:1 vor, das erlaubt deinem Gin weiterhin, dominant aufzutreten, aber gibt dieser s\u00fc\u00df-s\u00e4uerlichen Limettennote den Raum, den sie verdient. Mein Tipp: Probieren, anpassen und dann zu deinem pers\u00f6nlichen Sweet Spot finden \u2013 jeder mag’s anders.<\/p>\n

4. Shaken oder R\u00fchren?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Shaken empfiehlt sich hier, weil Limettensaft oder Cordial verwendet wird. Das h\u00fcllt den Drink in eine samtige Textur und integriert die Zutaten gut. Nicht zu lange shaken \u2013 nur so lange, bis alles sch\u00f6n kalt ist. Es gibt aber auch Traditionalisten, die den Drink einfach umr\u00fchren und direkt ins Glas geben \u2013 stilecht in Kristallglas.<\/p>\n

Und dann w\u00e4re da noch die Frage des Glases. Kleiner Fun Fact \u2013 der Gimlet ist ein Drink, der kein gro\u00dfes Tamtam um seine Pr\u00e4sentation macht. Ein schlichtes Tumbler-Glas ist v\u00f6llig in Ordnung. Am Ende entscheidet dein pers\u00f6nliches Herzensthema.<\/p>\n

Geschichte & Herkunft des Gimlet:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Der Legende nach hat der Gimlet seinen Ursprung bei der britischen Marine im 19. Jahrhundert. Angeblich wollte ein gewisser Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette, der Schiffsarzt, das Vitamin-C-reiche Limettenkonzentrat in die Wasserrationen seiner Mannschaft schleusen \u2013 um Skorbut vorzubeugen. Klingt fast zu pragmatisch, um wahr zu sein, aber hey, die Jungs brauchten halt was Erfrischendes auf hoher See. Den Gin gabs nat\u00fcrlich extra als Infusion drauf.<\/p>\n

Was beim Gimlet oft nicht erz\u00e4hlt wird, ist der sch\u00f6ne Widerstreit zwischen „Flair“ und „Funktionalit\u00e4t“. Er vereint zwei Welten \u2013 du bekommst den sauren Kick der Limette, aber der Gin l\u00e4sst trotzdem dieses elegante, zur\u00fcckhaltende Gef\u00fchl entstehen. Kein Wunder, dass bereits Raymond Chandler in seinen Philip-Marlowe-Romanen den Gimlet als unverzichtbares Accessoire der Nachkriegszeit bezeichnete. Und glaub mir, wenn der zynische Detektiv Marlows was trinkt, hat das Substanz.<\/p>\n

Verwandte Cocktails:<\/h3>\n

Wenn du schon in der Gimlet-Richtung unterwegs bist, k\u00f6nnte der „Daiquiri“ ein interessanter Verwandter sein \u2013 allerdings mit Rum statt Gin und etwas Zucker. Auch der „Tom Collins“ (Gin, Zitrone, Zucker, Sodawasser) ist verwandt. Beide Drinks teilen die gleiche erfrischende S\u00e4urebalance, auch wenn sie jeweils ihre ganz feinen Modifikationen dazwischenwerfen.<\/p>\n

Ein weiterer enger Verwandter ist der „Gin Sour“ (Gin, Zitronensaft und Zuckersirup), der dem Gimlet sehr \u00e4hnlich ist, aber durch die Verwendung des frischen Zitronensafts eine ganz andere Fruchtnote erh\u00e4lt.<\/p>\n
