Der Old Pal geht auf den legend\u00e4ren Barmann Harry MacElhone zur\u00fcck, der den Drink in der Pariser Bar &#8222;Harry&#8217;s New York Bar&#8220; popul\u00e4r machte. Angeblich wurde der Cocktail zu Ehren von <strong>William &#8222;Sparrow&#8220; Robinson<\/strong>, einem Sportjournalisten und treuen Stammgast, gemixt, der den Barmann oft als \u201emein alter Freund\u201c bzw. \u201eOld Pal\u201c bezeichnet haben soll. Klingt wie eine nette Anekdote, und ich finde, es hat etwas, wenn man sich vorstellt, wie die beiden einen Nachmittag mit einem Drink verbrachten, w\u00e4hrend Robinson von den neuesten Sportereignissen erz\u00e4hlte.<\/p>\n<p>Der Old Pal ist ziemlich eng verwandt mit anderen klassischen Negroni-Varianten, wobei der <strong>Boulevardier<\/strong> der direkteste Verwandte ist. Der Boulevardier tauscht den trockenen Wermut mit s\u00fc\u00dfem Wermut aus, was dem Drink ein rundes, weicheres Profil verleiht.
